Hi y'all! I'm Haley Meier, a native of Austin, Texas. However, I was born in Omaha, Nebraska where most of my extended family still resides, so a little piece of my heart will always reside in the Midwest.

Most people know me by my nickname, Stormy, derived from the word hailstorm when I was very young. Apparently, my temperament was a bit torrential as a toddler when it came to car seats and road trips. By the time I was seven, it had evolved into Stormy.

I was hooked on the weather at the age of three while making up names for clouds and tracing them with whipped cream in pie tins. This eventually led to my studies in Geosciences and Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University where I am also enrolled in their MBA Venture Pathway Program which offers S.T.E.M. majors a business entrepreneur curriculum. Plus, a path to an MBA degree. I will graduate in May 2023.
I played soccer for Mississippi State University for 2-1/2 years and was an SEC All-Conference Scholar. With a 3.90 GPA, I have been on the MSU President's List since my freshman year. In my junior year, I was blessed with the opportunity to work as a part-time weekend morning meteorologist for WTVA in Tupelo, MS for fourteen months. As FOX Weather's first endowed scholarship recipient, I am currently working as a freelance, Field Meteorologist and MMJ for this organization where I assist in the live coverage of severe weather, as well as produce weather-related packages to air on the platform.

Volunteerism has been a way of life for as far back as I can remember. Despite a crazy schedule with academics and soccer, I made time to serve my collegiate community and take on key roles in many on-campus organizations. As both treasurer and vice president for MSU's East Mississippi Chapter of the National Weather Association and American Meteorology Society, I organize large group meetings, field trips, fundraising projects, special events, and outreach efforts, as well as serve on the executive planning board of a Severe Storms Symposium dedicated to bringing together professional meteorologists, students, educators, and weather enthusiasts from across a thirteen-state region. I am a member of the Mortar Board, the Gamma Theta Upsilon Geography Society, and the Phi Mu sorority. I was also vice president and a founding member of the Mississippi State Chapter of the Hidden Opponent, an organization dedicated to breaking the negative stigma of mental health in student-athletes through advocacy, education, and support.

After graduation, I intend to earn an MBA while working as an on-air meteorologist and hope to incubate a "generational forecasting" concept designed to reach all age groups and dedicated to delivering daily forecasts to under-represented demographics using communication methods they can relate to. A Silver Forecast might befriend seniors with on-air conversations concerning the effects of extreme weather and season change on health and independence. While a Weather-in-a-Snap(chat) video post appeals to younger demos who prefer their forecast bite-sized and interactive. I aspire to use my platform as a broadcast meteorologist to create a Weather-or-Not-Disaster Foresight kit to help seniors build their own emergency preparedness plans and to raise money for free, NOAA All-Hazard Weather Radios for seniors living alone. Eventually, I will tackle producing a reality-TV-style travel series with documentaries about remote geographies and the extreme weather dramas that influence their cultures, tourism, and economies. As an entrepreneur at heart, I have several other unique program ideas percolating. Keep an eye out for them in the coming years!

All work and no play will make for a very dull girl, so I turn to the water to relax. The Frio River in Texas and the beaches in Florida are my happy places. I love history, musical theatre, sports, and travel, and am interested in historic preservation. I am adventurous and on the go, and never met a tornado or music festival I did not want to chase. My three-year-old aussie doodle pup named Obi-Wan Kenobi keeps me grounded and surrounded with unconditional love.
